Disclaimer: everyone describes "classic" in different terms… but I guess since this my blog, we’ll go with what I think is classic… these are light fixtures I would not leave a flea market/antique show/antique mall/garage sale without – if the price was right. And remember… lamps are always better in pairs! Lamp shades are a whole different ball game… trends drive shades more than lamps, so don’t be afraid to buy a classic lamp and change the shade every few years to give it an updated look!

URN LAMPS:
I’ve never seen an urn lamp that looked "outdated"… or that I didn’t like.

TASK LAMPS:
You know, the kind you might see on an architect’s desk… I love them all… never can resist. (I know, I have issues.)

oh la la, i have a light, a copper or brass? pendant, “pavo tynell” period light -1940′s lighting designer-
it is mod, wacky, not classic and needs to be restored. it came with the house and we have just not had the courage to do “anything”
may i send a photo for consult? some say it is valuable?
I love this post
I am so obsessed with lanterns right now. I think my obsession started when I had around 50+ lanterns hanging at my wedding – now I want to have them hanging lanterns replace all of my pendant lights.
I love each and every one of these! Especially the lanterns! And a BLACK kitchen…who knew?

hello – it’s arre – i am not on my home computer and cannot figure out how to log on to leave a normal ‘a’ comment, but that’s not the point. i am a lamp lover as well and wanted to familiarize you with barbara cosgrove (if you are not already familiar). though they are not vintage, she has a lot of great looking lamps – my current favorites are her pharmacy lamps (they come as a sconce or table or floor lamp). while the floor lamps are my true love, i have a pair of table lamps in mustard (and the patina is wonderful). and this post reminded me of them -which is why i posted the lengthy comment. check her/them out.
oh – and … we had a black kitchen growing up (my mom copied me though – i painted my room black first, i was 11)
your blog is so fantastic. i can’t belive i’m just discovering it now. i’m adding you to my link list immediately!
your new blog friend:)
