dirt bikers, shoppers, and used Huaraches

My husband has been wanting to go to dirt bike "camp" for awhile now (their "room" is pictured above)… it's about 2 hours outside of Atlanta.  So we decided we'd make the trek.  This is where he and hisfriend stayed… of course I opted to stay in Atlanta and invited 2 friends (Cameron & Marla) along for the journey!

It was no coincidence that it was Scott's weekend… and we took advantage of every second we had… my dear friends were total troopers… you have to be to keep up with me!  See my friends below in the reflection…

Sometimes I get a little overwhelmed and A.D.D. all at the same time.  One such time I turned around to see if they were behind me and realized that they were carrying my stuff and I was empty-handed… "boo" me- I tried to clean up my act and not get so crazy. Friends, I appreciated your help this weekend!

{love my noisette bag, Blair!}

We had an absolute blast… although it probably felt like work, we covered some serious ground… and even got to eat at really fancy places like Ruby Tuesday's and Trader Joe's (in our hotel room).

Oh and we rented a mini-van… seafoam green, only had 6 miles on it when we picked it up!  It was a good call, as we packed it slam full 2 days in a row!  Would it be odd for a childless person (such as I) to get a mini-van… it was quite sporty and I loved all the room!  It even had the auto-close doors!

This here pug was a cute "shop keeper" – who couldn't walk past that and not chuckle?  I didn't take too many photos… I was busy- had lots of "items" on my list (not for me unfortunately)… but had I been looking for a shop counter – I would have bought this one:

I did buy this (not for me):

We managed to squeeze in a little mall-shopping too…

Photos 053

Here's proof that I was with them… sitting in a chair at Restoration Hardware (for scale purposes it's helpful to sit in or stand by something in a photo).  I wish we had taken a group shot of all 3 us!

It was at Restoration Hardware where I ran into a fellow Auburn Interior Design classmate – my friend Laura!!  It was such a treat to see her!!!!

It was also in the mall where we discovered a new luxury in fashion… USED Huaraches!? When I first saw them I thought it was a "donation" box… ummm no, fashion has taken a turn that I cannot keep up with… those nasty dirty shoes were going for $38 a pair.  We got a good laugh.  When we inquired about them to the sales girl she claimed "vintage is back".

After all these adventures, Cameron flew back to Louisville, Kentucky and we hit the road… we stopped for Marla to do a photo shoot in Montgomery - at a beautiful place: Jasmine Hill.  Then another pit stop (literally met at a gas station in Troy, Alabama) for some books. Oh yes, I am always in need of books.  This time I scored 175 of them to be exact.  From a very kind and cute blogger named Laura (who I did not know) but somehow she thought I might be interested… and when she sent me these photos I almost fell over… they are all old and classics (from the local high school)… thanks to her cheerleaders (I assume she's their coach) for picking out all the best colors for me!!!  Gimme a B! Gimme an O! Gimme an O!  Gimme a K! What's that spell!?

That's all folks.  In a nutshell it was an amazing weekend with amazing company, and a much needed "break" (if it can even classify as such?)!  I came home with a trailer full of awesome finds, but somehow failed to take good pictures… I'm busy packing most of it back up because I am taking it with me as I wrap up an out of town project this week!

I'll be gone again for a few days… if I have time to post I will!

  1. Erika, you gave me a chuckle… I love the photo of your friends in the reflection of the mirror!! Reminded me of when I was younger and would take my youngest sister with me shopping so she could hang up all the clothes I tried on and carry my bags!

2nd- I’m glad you didn’t go dirt biking with CHance and stay in that “cabin” and I’m also glad your husband didn’t kill himself on that stupid dirt bike.
3rd- How did you know how to spell huaraches? And GROSS… I’ll buy a lot of things used… HUARACHES is not one of them!
4th- I’m super jealous of the books… do I get a commission for the “hook up”? Thanks, Laura for the “drive-by book deal”! Glad the cops didn’t catch y’all! :)
5th- Did Cameron buy any make up from that counter? Where was she? You left us hanging!
6th- The green counter is gorgeous. I’d love to have it in my store. If I only had a store. Could it be used as a giant kitchen island!?? I love it!
7th- 3 kids need me and I’m writing on your blog!

  3. you are too funy girlfriend, how do you find the time to do all this? Glad you put that noisette bag to use, it’s always good for a flea market or farmer’s market find! Love, love, love the green counter…maybe you should open a store and stock it with all your amazing finds? Just a thought.

  4. Travelsmith.com has great new Huaraches for about $38. Some of the most comfortable walking shoes I own.

  7. looks like a great weekend! i want to hear more about the 175 books! you got all of them?!

  8. Don’t get a mini-van. Get a volvo 960 or 760 station wagon. You can pick up one for a couple of thou… I got a six-foot church pew in the back of my old one and could even close the tailgate. Even the old volvos have heated seats (not that you’ll need it down south.)

  9. taylor brown says:

can you write a mini-van off as a “business expense”? if so, then YES…get one. especially one with the automatic doors. they will be open and waiting on you when you walk back from your antique shopping and mile long yard sales when your hands are ful!!
