I gather this subject is intriguing to others like me, given the feedback from my last post… so here are some more one room school houses… {Patricia, ever illustrated a school house? Maybe this will inspire?}

Here are the ones Martha B {NIBS} sent to me… she says: I found the photos of the one room school houses in upstate NY. These two hadn’t been used for years and were boarded up.

I don’t know about you… but I sure would love to have one of these little beauties in my backyard… converted into an art studio, guest quarters, garden room… and the list goes on!

If you can’t get enough – check this out!

  1. let me just say I now want to go to Vermont so that I can stay in the Pitcher Inn…it looks beautiful! I followed the link and found one school house about a mile from my house, that I pass by almost every day – it’s so interesting to read about it’s history… I only wish they had pictures of it! I second you on wanting one in my backyard… it would make a great little playhouse or guest house!

  2. Covet one for my very own art studio, and art school!

  3. Hi Erika,
    I stumbled upon your blog and I love it – especially the schoolhouse post! I was in Destin one weekend at my family’s beach condo and met a woman who was living in Destin after she and her family were displaced from Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina. She told me she enrolled her son in Pre-School at a “one-room schoolhouse” in the Destin/Ft. Walton area. I wondered later where the heck it was and if it was built new or and old relic that was still in use! I’d love to know. Have you heard of it?

  4. I think having a peice of history as part of ur home is amazing! You’re so lucky ;)

  5. Hey Erika, I love this post. I would say that my personal artistic talent is “seeing the treasure in the trash”. I think that is what is going on here in these schoolhouses. Some might think they are old “trashy” buildings, but I think they are marvelous masterpieces. This post in particular has moved your blog to my favorite reads lists on my blog. I wish you the best in whatever project(s) is next! amanda (ruble) wallace

  6. What a fun post! Just found your blog and really enjoyed it. I’ve bookmarked you and will be back. -Julia :-)

  7. I know we’re late in discovering it, but I was just tipped off to this post from a friend, after I posted a photo of a one-room schoolhouse near our home in rural Arkansas. On a drive last Sunday we passed a recently moved, very old log cabin, but I never considered doing the same thing with an old schoolhouse…so cool.

  8. I live in an old school house and i was hoping you could help me find a way to learn more or get pics of the house back in the day. I cant remember the name but it had Daisy in the name of the school and ive talked to a guy who used to go to school here. My address is 4084 Scotch Creek Rd
    Marathon, WI 54448
    If you could help me that would be great…
