Last night we attended a little holiday soiree at a friend's house… 5 couples, hor d'oeuvres, cocktails, sweets, and games! It has become a gathering that I look very forward to every year. The company and food are always delightful… but honestly my favorite part of the evening is when we start playing games. Last year we made up our own version of The Newlywed Game… we got a little too much info from some, which we were still laughing about this year. Last night we played my personal favorite Catch Phrase.
If you don't have this game you should add it to your Christmas list. Ahhh heck, just go buy it for yourself… so you can play with family and friends this holiday season! You will not be disappointed. We also played Battle of the Sexes… the men are questioned on subjects like make-up and spices and the women are drilled on cars, tools and sports. I know, sexism in its finest form. To make matters worse, the questions for the men are a lot easier than the questions for the women… which they basked in… it's still fun though!
Don't tell my dad, but I bought him Catch Phrase Music Edition for Christmas… if he's reading that's okay, he can't keep gifts a secret either. He's a big music buff and I know he'll love it!
Do you have a favorite game?

Oooh. Good Christmas ideas…we alwyas like to incorporate some fun game in the pfamily presents. Thanks!
We love games! Just yesterday a friend asked me what was a good game for her family and I suggested Catch Phrase and Cranium. Any game where you can act, sing, draw, and sculp things in clay, is bound to be a good time! Battle of the Sexes is one we play, as well as Pictionary. (and the guys questions are easier).
Erika, I LOVE catch phrase! My sister and I have been playing it for a couple of years now, SUCH a great game. I just played “Left, Right, Center” at work during lunch with my co-workers. It’s a dice game with chips, but we played with quarters just to make it more interesting, the more people that play the more you win! Here’s a link to how it’s played, you can get it on Amazon for under $3 too, can’t beat that! Heck, you could win your money back if you play with a few people!

I love Catch Phrase! We played it for hours over Thanksgiving (among many, many other games)!
Love catch phrase…we played Taboo over thanksgiving which is basically an older version of catch phrase.
Btw, your blog is great…and, I also have the canon rebel and I only wish I could take photos like you! A photography course is in my future.
Apples to Apples. have you ever played? So fun.
Ooh, ooh, couples games are the best! Check these out: http://www.tabletopics.com/products.html
I think you will enjoy! There are several different versions…family ones as well, which I think you all will love.
Kara
anyone else ever played “pushin peanuts” (anyone besides celia, that is)?
WHAT??? there is a music edition of catch phrase?? get.out. love love love!! note to self: trip to walmart/target soon. thank you for telling us! if they had a harry potter edition, i might just die.
I love Catch Phrase! This post reminded me that I need to go out and buy some games… I used to love playing games growing up, but we haven’t bought any games yet since getting married. Battle of the Sexes sounds fun!
We love Catch Phrase. We also like Cranium, though we don’t have that one.
how fun for Christmas – great idea, thank you. xv
Battle of the Sexes is awesome. We played at Thanksgiving and of course the guys won (I’ve never lost). Every girl I’ve ever played with thinks the guys’ questions are easier. I have a theory though. Husbands/boyfriends listen to their wives/girlfriends. Even when you don’t think we’re paying attention we’re listening and making mental notes. “Oh, I know that YSL stands for Yves St. Laurent because you wanted that really expensive jacket from Neiman Marcus and I made note of it.”
Thanks for the game ideas! I will have to check them out. Enjoy…
Yes, Battle of the Sexes is totally unfair!
And if you like Catch Phrase, you should try Buzzword. I played it the weekend for the first time and I was really fun!
Playing Catch Phrase with my mother had to be one of the most hilarious evenings ever! That was so fun! Too bad we live so far apart!! Check out my sweater on facebook at the ugly sweater party this past weekend. You may want to borrow george and I’s sweaters;)
Thanks for all the great ideas guys!!
