all dolled up and movie review

One of the things that most excites about having a little girl, is that I will soon have a legit reason to go into Crewcuts (other than trying to squeeze myself into a girls XXL).  This arrived in my inbox this morning – and I'm sorry, but if my daughter had those baubles Mommy would borrow them often.

In other (totally unrelated) news…

Movie review: Julie & Julia was wonderful!  I don't want to tell you much, because I don't want to ruin it… but I did not want the movie to come to an end!  It was good folks!  Chance's response "that was a way better movie than I thought it was going to be"… we both loved it.  The set decoration is enough to make you want to watch it over and over again.  Set decoration intrigues me deeply.  The movie is rolling so fast I always wish I had a remote to pause it and take it all in -right there on the big screen in the theater.  Mrs.Blandings (Patricia Shakelford) interviewed Susan Bode Tyson (the set decorator) regarding the set of Julie & Julia… I'm headed off to reread her article now.  You can read it too:  RIGHT HERE

And… now I'm tempted to start collecting copper pots, and I never really thought of peg board as a design element for a kitchen, but it sure is useful!  My husband will be glad there are no blank walls in our little bitty kitchen.   Here's a wonderful article from NPR on Julia Child's kitchen and the exhibit at the Smithsonian.  It's a must read!

Happy Saturday!

  1. Oh, I loved it too! Glad you enjoyed it. I will be the first in line when its out on DVD-ready to pause!

  2. I can’t wait to see this. I’m hoping that I can squeeze it in this weekend.

  3. I’m so glad the movie was good; I was hoping it would be! The book had potential but didn’t live up to it. Now I just need to find some time to go to the theater…

  4. Loved it, too. Saw it the first local run yesterday by myself and probably will see it again today with my husband. It is not a total chick-flick.

  5. I took my mom to see the movie yesterday and we both loved it. I agree with you about the set design and as usual, Meryl was wonderful!

  6. oh i loved it too!!! julia was so delightful and i wish i’d known her and hung out with her in paris.

  7. I saw the movie this morning and it was fabulous! I agree, I love watching sets in movies. I’d love to be a part of creating them. I think that may have been one of the only reasons I loved Marie Antoinette so much, good sets! Glad you liked the movie too!

  8. We were at Crewcuts this morning shopping around. The flower headbands/pins/ponytail holders are not too expensive and fit us older gals. They are fabulous. I wish I could morph all of their clothes into our size!!

  9. We saw it on Friday too. Half way through the movie I had the thought that I didn’t want it to end. I told my husband afterward that I would have to get it on dvd.
I used to watch her on pbs when I was little. I remember thinking I couldn’t wait to grow up and have some copper pots.

  10. love the crewcuts! my friends and i call it jcrack.
i have wanted some copper pots for some while now. they have a few at williams sonoma that have an acorn for the handle on the lid(if that makes sense) oh, and you can even have it personalized with an engraved monogram. they are beautful!

  11. when i got that jcrew add i totally though, “i should get that necklace for myself!love it!

  12. Just visited the myhomeideas website (miss cottage living SOOO much!) and saw your cute pic and good ideas! Love your blog and am excited to see you on other sites!

  13. My husband and I saw Julie & Julia Saturday night. We both completely enjoyed it. Truly delightful. Will have to rent it to check out the scene details. I agree, it was great!

  14. i saw this pic in crewcuts mag the other day and LOVED it..but for a different reason than you – having all girls i see that look too often! it’s how my 4 year old and her best friend are one minute and hugging and loving each other the next. gotta love those girls. but i do love the clothes/jewels too… arre and i hit up the crewcuts outlet store as often as we can – you’re lucky you’re so close!!

  15. What I wouldn’t do for wall space to create a display like that!

  16. My husband brought my girls those bracelets back from NYC this summer. It is so cute; they wear them EVERY day. I need to order a few more in case they loose them!

  17. me too, as soon as i got the catalog i ordered the apricot bauble necklace for my lily who is almost three.

  18. Thanks for the movie review! I am very anxious to see it myself. I love your blog. You are so talented- keep it up :)

  19. my husband said the exact same thing!!! And we went to the most fabulous brunch on Sunday, my mother-in-law and I delighted in using our version of Julia’s accent, “you can just see us grow before your eyes”!!!! and might I add, a MUCH better movie than the G.I.Joe flick we also had to see. :-)

  20. I loved the movie too! I felt like cooking something afterwards. I love that Crewcuts add, so adorable.

  21. I can’t wait to see it! So glad that you loved it. I live in DC, and I visit her kitchen at the Smithsonian often. I take every single out of town guest there. It’s so fun to see it up close.

  22. thanks for the review! I’m so excited. I’ll have to tell my hubby that your hubby liked it, and perhaps he will change his mind about going with me.

  23. So glad you liked it – thanks for the link!

  24. Is it said to say that I wish I could shop at crewcuts sometimes too?!

  25. Opps I meant *sad to say*!

  26. Oh, I want that pegwall for pots and pans!

  27. I think it’s great that you posted pics of J.C.’s kitchen. When I saw it a couple of years ago I thought that if J.C. could cook in such a deconstructed kitchen then so could I.
I can’t wait to see Julie and Julia. I read the book and I’m sure the movie is going to be wonderful. I can’t decide if I should see it alone or with someone. Maybe they would distract me. Or maybe it would be fun to see it with someone.

  28. aw! i just got back from seeing Julie and Julia with my mom and sister. it was so lovely! and i too totally swoon over each and every crewcuts catalog. they have become yet another thing i cannot bring myself to throw away.

  29. My background is in Set Design…and now I’m definitely going to have to watch this film!
