This maternity leave is dangerous.  Being (sort-of) alone in my home makes me want to update, redecorate, rearrange, renovate, shop, and redesign.  Too bad I’m on a spending hiatus.  The onset of autumn doesn’t help either… is it just me or does the changing of seasons make you want to nest and redecorate too?  Maybe it is the black cat or the fact that the light fixture looks like a pumpkin, but this room above looks like a good spot to cozy up in on a cool autumn day… although the cat would have to go, because I am very allergic.

  1. I’m allergic to cats too, so I’d boot it out too!
Is Sloane going to be anything for Halloween?

  2. I so feel ya! We had -0.97 in the bank this AM since last night we decided to switch our spare bedroom with our bedroom. Which mean of course, we needed new sheets, a new carpet, a pillow, etc from Wal-Mart. Fall just does that too me.

    Erika you might go nuts in our house… it’s a 2-bedroom, 1-bath horror, all 816-square-feet of it. I think it’s a decorator’s nightmare.

I am loving the pumpkin-y light fixture! That’s the first thing I noticed too.

  3. What I would give for that big window! The light is amazing. Hope you are enjoying every second of your time off with that little one :)

  4. I definitely think the cool weather makes me want to nest…I start thinking of all sorts of things I want to change in my house!!!

  5. being at home with babies always makes me want to change things around the house :) we need a picture update of that sweet baby. i know she has to look so different now, don’t they change so quickly?! hope all is well

  6. Great room! I love how the books on the top shelf are nestled between the rafters :)

  7. Oh, it’s the window! Wow, perfection. I’d even let the cat stay. LOL

  8. I feel ya. I’m in full-on fall nesting mode. trying to do it without spending a dime though … so far so good. and baking seems to satisfy the same urge, oodly. made a pumpkin pound cake last night — delish!

  9. when does the desire to redecorate and nest really ever stop? i would say never. the seasons just give us a good reason to justify it. haha:)

  10. oh my, I always tell my husband that being a stay at home mom plus a homebody makes me always in the mood for change. I am happy you feel it too.

It does look like we will be at the beach sunday evening through thursday afternoon.

  11. I love the idea of rooms like this but then I think of all of the dust that I’d have to deal with with all of those books and I think again. It is so very, very hard to get into the Autumn frame of mind here – it’s supposed to go up to 93 this week.

  12. I work from home, so understand the desire to redecorate while staring at your house.

  13. I’m definitely agree with you on the redecorating due to the change of seasons!! That room looks so cozy! Perfect place to curl up and read a book!! This is the first time I have written about any of your posts alhthough I read your blog frequently! Congrats to you and Chance, Sloane is beautiful!! Have a great week!!

  14. Erika, I am stay at home mom and the same thing happens to me every fall when the kids go back to school, I want to redo and my husband says redon’t … now I am repainting my foyer so that is satisfying my urge somewhat:)

  15. Good eye :) Definitely the little Rover in the flesh

  16. It looks oh-so-cozy! Enjoy your maternity leave:)

  17. Erika-

Any source for that light fixture…love it? It looks like a vintage Michael Taylor goatskin lamp. Thanks for any help you can give me. :)

  18. I want to redecorate/change during the change of seasons too. I’d love to see any changes you make while on maternity leave. Hope things are going well with the newest addition.

  19. I totally agree on staying home makes you want to update your house. I have stayed at home since I was about 20 weeks pregnant with my 16 month old. At first I shopped A LOT!! The urge is always there cant say so much for a large bank account!

  20. Hi Erika,
Congrats to you and Chance on your beautiful Sloane!
This is a wonderful room because it shows comfort, style and not too trendy.

  21. i love this image; a good book and cozy blanket and you are set. and i am with you on seasonally nesting on a spending hiatus.

  22. Fall always feels like the beginning of a new year to me! A time for change and longing to make my home feel cozy in a new and different way! Built in bookshelves always do it for me! Love them when they are on all four walls in a room!

  23. Ooooo…that is Paul Fortune’s house. One of my all time favorites. Ever. Ever. Ever. Good choice.

  24. Erica,

In addition to photography I love to write and this is seriously my dream dream DREAM writing room. I have been staring at my office all week trying to figure out what I want to do with it. I am INSPIRED! Thank you for the share. Now I am off to plan it all out. Or maybe I should just have you come here and do that for me. Hmmmmmmm….

I hope all is well with Baby Sloane. I loved getting to photograph both of you while in Florida. Take care!
