date night

My husband doesn't know it (yet), but tomorrow evening I will be taking him on a date.  We haven't been to a movie in a long time, and someone suggested "go the movies before your baby comes, that is one of those luxuries that gets put on the back burner with a new infant"… so off to the theater we will go.

And we will see Julie & Julia.  Because Mrs.Blandings has been killing me with her posts about it: here and here and here.  And while I wish I could say I have read the books (Julie's and Julia's), I have not.  Usually I do so before I watch a movie… but time just hasn't allowed for much reading lately.

Here's the trailer if you are interested:

  1. Another movie to go see: 500 Days of Summer….my husband and I just went on a date night (yep, trying to get in all those movie nights before baby), and it was fantastic!

  2. This looks like such a fun movie! Enjoy!

  3. Please let us know how you like it!

  4. Can’t wait to see this movie! Meryl is always fantastic. I read both books and enjoyed Julia Child’s My Life in France so much more than Julie/Julia…but I still think the movie will be great!

  5. The book wasn’t great so don’t feel bad about skipping it. I have a feeling the movie will be better so enjoy it, guilt-free!

  6. What a wonderful date night! I’m going to see it this weekend too-with a cooking group buddy. Then maybe I’ll read the book.

  7. Finishing the book as we speak! It is very funny and the movie should be delightful! Enjoy your date, I’m taking prices’s mom!

  8. OOH, I love date night! And, I think I might join you in seeing the movie before reading the book. Looks like fun!

  9. Just saw it too! Good idea to squeeze date nights in before babysitters and sleeping/feeding schedules are involved:)

  10. i would love for you to post a review! I am anxious to see it and haven’t read the book either.

  11. I am dying to see this movie. I read the book – I liked it a lot – so will be interesting to see how it compares. Definitely at least post a thumbs up or down. Date nights are something I miss the most post-kids; total luxury now. Good for you for getting out while you still can – hope it’s fun!
p.s. I bought some of the Sharpie pens – they are amazing; I don’t share them with anyone. :)

  12. Enjoy your night out with your hubby! We just got some sharpie pens too–I love that they don’t bleed through!

  13. The book had me laughing out loud.
Enjoy your date night. They are the best.

  14. Also going to see the movie this weekend. Cannot WAIT! Enjoy it and have fun before the little one arrives.

  15. I can’t wait to see this movie & read the book! Let us know how it is! Enjoy your date night!

  16. I just told my husband we are watching that movie tomorrow night!!! I haven’t been this excited over a movie in quite some time :) Hope you enjoy it :)

  17. I am trying to convince my husband to take me on our weekend away. He said what about GI joes, ugh.

  18. i can’t wait to see this movie!! would it be weird to camp out the night before and dress in a julia childs costume?

  19. I like the way you work, sister. Paulie might be in for a surprise date night tomorrow, too!

  20. It’s on my schedule too!

  21. Here’s a little trivia nugget for you: it’s actually based on TWO books! The parts about Julia Child are based on her auotbiographical book My Life in France. The parts about blogger Julie Powell’s (mis)adventures in cooking are from Julie and Julie.
I have a very big Julia Child crush but I can’t decide if I should see it! I’m worried it just won’t do her justice. Can’t wait to hear about it.

  22. oh, have fun! i just finished the book, and really enjoyed it, i can’t wait to see the movie!

  23. Two years ago I thought I would listen to this book on CD while working on my senior Interior Design studio project. That plan didn’t work too well. I found myself completely caught up in listening to this book on CD and distracted from my project more than once! I eventually just gave up on listening to it while working on the project. So glad its coming out in theaters! Enjoy!

  24. Its a cool fun movie..Gr8. Just stumbled and submitted your site to Hope you get some great traffic from it. Your blog is here

  25. Sounds like a lot of fun! I hope to take my mom to see it.
Also, I wanted to let you know that your blog has become an absolute favorite of mine over the past couple weeks, so I’ve chosen it for the Lovely Blog Award. I’ve linked to it from mine, so hopefully that too, will bring you more loyal readers. Your work is lovely.

  26. I am seeing it in 2 hours! I am so excited. I saw a snippet of interview with Meryl last night and she said that the Julia she plays is Julia the way that Julie imagines her. I thought that was interesting. I really can’t wait to see it. Enjoy yourself tonight!

  27. the proposal is good too…my husband and i saw it right after the baby was born.

  28. Enjoy the movie, but you (as a blog author) will love the book, too! Julie has a wild sense of humor and a passionate drive to cook, all of us creatives types can relate. Maybe you can read it during all those hours you’ll spend up with the baby…at least it will make you laugh!

  29. Do it! I have seen 1 movie since I had JD and he is 19 months old!!! So sad.

  30. Boy, is that the truth. We haven’t seen one movie together since the dude was born 13 mos. ago!
