In the words of me engineering husband: "someone messed up the parabolic curve on this thing!"
When I noted that I purchased this rocking chair for the nursery I got a few comments that it doesn't rock (thanks for your honest feedback!). Hmmm… unfortunately I sent it off to be painted before I assembled and tested it.
Sidenote: thank you also for all your toaster suggestions, who knew people were so toaster crazy!?
The chair came back from the painters yesterday, we assembled it… and indeed: it does not rock.
It also sits low and very deep.
I'm a whopping 5 foot 2 inches tall and perhaps it's me that's the problem? I'm not sure.
But I do know for sure that I would not recommend the chair. I feel certain that my friend who vouched for the chair sat in one at Ikea that had been very broken in? And she is taller than I.
The $150 I spent on it was not money wasted, I needed a chair for the office and this will suffice.
An EXTREMELY GENEROUS client insisted that she buy me the rocking chair I originally wanted… I am so very grateful and blessed. I'll tell you more about it later.

Oh that is the saddest thing! But, thankfully you did not have a TON of money in it, nor are you stuck w/ it as your nursery glider. Can’t wait to see the one you are actually going to use – I looked at those from Lee as well. They are so classy! You and I – not such good luck w/ the gliders, huh? Ha….(recall: mine went 55 mph out of my truck!).
You are a stitch! Will you please still post pix of the painted chair and I want to see the new one. Hope you are floating in a pool. It’s a heat wave in Atlanta so I know it’s steamy your way.
Pardon me for laughing, Erika, but this is so funny.
What a ridiculous design. A rocker that doesn’t rock. Ikea should be ashamed of themselves.
So glad that there is a happy ending to your story.

hey woman… sorry it didn’t work out – seemed sooo economical! We broke down and puchased the PB Dream Swivel Glider 3 yrs ago for the nursery and it’s still in mint condition… baby2 will be utilizing as well. I highly recommend it.
Oh Erika, I am so sorry. Glad you have a happy ending to your rocking woes. I’d still like to see the finished product. Also want to see the rocker you have been gifted. I know this nursery is going to be swoon worthy!
If you haven’t already tried it you must try the Monte Luca glider. Everything else pales by comparison, including Lee I think…
oh man, i worried when you said you were getting that one. i searched & searched for an affordable rocker when i was pregnant with my first. so i was thrilled when i found the ikea “rocker”. but, i’m 5’2″ as well, and it was way too deep for me.
and in the end, after all that searching and stress, my daughter didn’t care to be rocked anyway! figures.
Erika, Sorry to hear that you’ve had some rocker woes but I am glad to hear that you will be getting the perfect rocker for your nursery. I can’t wait to see it. It is comforting to a novice like me to know that even a professional interior designer runs into snags along the way. I am enjoying your blog so much!
Erika,
Well rats. A rocker that doesn’t rock. Paint or no paint, perhaps Ikea will take it back. Maybe they will put your painted chair in their “idea department”… what you can do with a very cute rocker that doesn’t rock.
Rock out baby.
oh this is so frustrating..i am not laughing at you because remember, i ruined a bella notte cribskirt with RIT DYE..motherhood and decorating is just nuts, even if you are a DECORATOR;;; it gives us empathy to remember when working with pregnant clients in the future;;
and WOW what a generous “client” sounds more like an angel to me! praise God for that blessing!
cant wait to see all you do..BUT NO PRESSURE…ha! i know you feel it..seriously, try to relax and enjoy!
Don’t you hate it when you buy something because you think you are saving money and it ends up to be a bad purchase? I did the same thing with a porch swing recently.
how sad:( at least it was not money wasted.
So are you doing the Lee? You will love it for the nursery and other places. We have always loved ours. Now onto strollers, have you decided? haha.
Hey Erika! I invested in a Lee swivel glider but only could afford it since I work at a furniture store
It is the best chair ever, slip cover, washable and SO comfortable. If this is the one your client gets for you, you will not be disappointed! Can’t wait to see
Thanks for praying for us too ! Love Joy
I’m sorry this didn’t work out — IKEA is pretty hit or miss to me. And I don’t think being taller would help. I’m 6′ and I’m pretty sure if I sat in something that low, my knees would be up around my face!
oh no! it looks like it should rock. happy to hear it can be used elsewhere.
Thank you for posting this…I had thought this was adorable but will now avoid like the plague in my nursery.
Wish I could recommend something for you. All I can say is focus on the arm height of the chair. It’s really nice to be able to have your arms rest on the chair arms in a way that’s still comfortable to hold and nurse the baby.
The “parabolic curve” comment from your husband just about killed me! Too funny….it sounded JUST like my husband!
It looks like you are getting a fabulous replacement though.
SO good to know — we’d been thinking about that rocker for the nursery, but will now reconsider. love the other one you are getting and the gold crib is awesome!!
Hi Erika,
I got the Nurseryworks rocker on sale and then after my daughter came along, we found out she wasn’t a rocker–she was more of a walk me around the house kind of girl. Who knows what could happen. Can’t wait to see how the nursery comes together!
