I have a love-hate relationship with Ikea.  This, however, pulls me towards the LOVE side of that relationship.

Nothing will wake a sick girl up at 6:30 in the morning like a good Ikea Make-Over.

(Oh, how I want to reach into the photo and twist into place that left ring pull on the bottom drawer.)

Believe it or not, what we have here is an Ikea Rast 3-drawer chest.  $39.99.

Project from Penny People Designs, via Little Green Notebook.  Good find Jenny, awesome job Lindsay!!

  1. That knob is quite annoying, huh? I also have a love hate relationship with Ikea. Some things are great, some not so much;) It’s freezing here and snowing…wish I was in Florida with you and the Sloanster!! Miss you!!

  2. I just saw this on Jenny’s blog and my mouth dropped. I love it. I wish I had more patience for DIY projects…

  3. Wow! That really looks good. Checked it out on the site, and what a big difference!

  4. Wow, this made my jaw drop! Wish I was better at DIY!

  5. You and my mother are two peas in a pod!! That handle would drive her bonkers. I, on the other hand, would never have noticed. I therefore appreciate and depend on her eye. It helps not only with design but also with noticing the world around me–she’s always the one who spots the great leaves on a tree or the really cool cloud in the sky. Over time, I’ve really understood it to be a talent to see the details…and I’m trying to learn…

  6. Wha-aat? Cyber dashing to see the details… and feel better soon!

  7. I think I have identified Barry’s next project!!!!

  8. Last time we moved, the guy giving us the quote asked if we had any IKEA furniture. We told him we didnt, but inquired as to why he asked. He said they hate to move it because it is (generally speaking) heavy and because it is not made well it is hard to move without damage. That was news to us, but I still like the look of it and probably would buy some anyhow!

  9. ha! i thought the same thing about that freaking handle! i loved the picture but had to stop looking at it because all i could see was the wonky handle :)

  10. Thank you for posting my little side table project – and you are the first one to notice what drives me bonkers….that ring pull. *sigh* I noticed it after posting it last year, but it actually makes me giggle now so I decided to leave it. :)

Mag – the side tables are actually really quite nicely made – we don’t move them (so there isn’t reason for damaged). The only thing that some people have pointed out is that the drawers are lacking gliders, so it is hard if you have really HEAVY stuff in the drawers, but as side tables it’s usually just my magazines, remote control for the TV, and earplug for when someone snores. :)

    I’m glad everyone likes it!

  11. I’m with you, love/hate is right. Everytime I bring something home it’s missing screws, etc. So annoying. So usually I’m more of a hater but this looks prettty darn good.

  12. genius I tell ya – genius!!!!!!!!!!

    back to Ikea I go . . .

  13. The crooked pull was the first thing I noticed and then I read your comment…made me chuckle. Definitely a good find at Ikea.

  14. The very first think my eye was drawn to was that drawer pull!! AH! Drives me nuts. LOVE Ikea… hate the shipping charges. The nearest one to me is 6+ hours away, so I don’t get to partake very often.

  15. Oops… now it’s going to drive me crazy that I said “think” instead of “thing”.

  16. Isn’t that great!??! I love it! I saw it on Little Green Notebook!

  17. Me too! (i want to straighten that pull) and I LOVE the headboard but the white bedspread makes me cringe. In my house, that would have jelly or cheese it’s on it in a heartbeat! haha

  18. I’m crazy for that headboard. Totally unrelated, but I thought you might enjoy a tour of this house. It’s stunning.
I came across the link at Velvet & Linen blog:

  19. I love these side tables – we have two of them in our master bedroom and stained them yellow, couple coats of poly, and changed out the knobs – they’re fantastic. Since we use them as nightstands as well we don’t really have much of an issue with the drawers. Plus it’s a great place to hide some random bits and pieces.

  20. This makeover is insane. What a great example of Ikea done well. If they would sell pieces like that maybe it would help most people’s love-hate relationship.

  21. it is a fab make-over- who can believe it- but I, too, immediately noticed the knob and could hardly see past it!!

  22. I know, incredible isn’t it? RE: the knob – good to know I’m not the only one with OCD tendencies! ;)
    Hope you’re feeling better soon!

  23. Maybe somebody good at Photoshop could fix that ring pull for you. It’s enough to drive someone crazy!

I love the idea of Ikea. I went for the first time a month or so ago and I couldn’t help wondering to myself, “how long is a side table that costs $8 going to last?”

  24. I mostly love IKEA and I love it even more now that I’ve seen this. I love the store because so long as you know what you are looking for, you can get some really great deals there. I am going to do my own version of this project soon and post it to my blog… more to come, I promise. FYI my favorite thing to buy at IKEA are the really cheap, classic white serving dishes. When I make something for a party I bring it on one of them and leave it as a hostess gift. It’s soo much better than bringing Tupperware or asking the hostess to please wash my dish and give it back to me!

  25. Isn’t this project amazing? I think Lindsay did such a great job. I can’t wait to use the idea in the near future

I’m totally laughing about the upside down knob comment. I think we were cut from the same cloth because it’s been driving me a bit batty too. Would you believe that I was considering photoshopping the knob around so that it wouldn’t jump out at me every time I pulled up my blog?? :)

Hope you are well and enjoying every second with your adorable little peanut!

  26. Wow- would have never have guessed that was IKEA!! It reminds me of a chest from Bungalow5. Great find!

  27. Pretty! This was an extremely wonderful post.
Thank you for providing these details.

  28. I’m truly enjoying the design and layout of your
website. It’s a very easy on the eyes which makes it much more enjoyable for me to come here and visit more
often. Did you hire out a developer to create your theme? Great work!

  29. certainly like your web-site however you need to check the spelling on quite a
few of your posts. Many of them are rife with spelling issues and I
to find it very bothersome to tell the reality nevertheless I’ll surely come back again.

  30. If you are going for most excellent contents like myself, only
pay a quick visit this web page all the time since it gives feature contents, thanks

  31. Hmm is anyone else experiencing problems with the pictures on this
blog loading? I’m trying to determine if its a problem
on my end or if it’s the blog. Any feedback would be greatly

  32. This is an outdated myth that gives this particular training tool a bad
reputation. Even if you started training your dog with imperfect results, or if you have adopted a
dog with behavior problems, it is not to late to
correct any mistakes already made. Providing you with problem solving ideas on chewing, digging, and house
training, their specialists take a hands-on approach to training your dog.

  33. Terrific post but I was wondering if you could write a litte
more on this subject? I’d be very thankful if you could elaborate a little bit further.

  34. Just amazing !!
