parlez vous francais?

I don't speak a lick of French. Hence why I botched this blog post title the first time I posted it. (I had 6 years of Spanish.)

But I have been searching for a poster for one wall in the nursery… I found this last night.

It was the only one available so I bought it.

Hope the little girl likes it.

I'm pretty pumped that it's Friday.  I spent last weekend working, but this weekend I plan to clock out entirely.  My family is coming into town because tomorrow night friends are having a party for me and Chance (honoring this little girl in my belly)… I can't wait!!!

Oh, and on the nursery front this week: we hung draperies and installed crib bedding last night – I promise to post pictures soon!

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

  1. It’s so sweet, Erika. And I don’t know why, but I just have this feeling this is going to be one of those things that she thinks about often when she’s older and reminiscing about her childhood. It’s like this collection of short stories I had as a kid that flash into my head from time to time.

We want to see the nursery! Please don’t make us wait too long. Put your feet up the weekend. No work for YOU!

  3. That poster is so cute. Great find! Also, is there any issue with having cribs like yours painted when the little one starts teething? We just got a regular white crib somewhere, and my child chewed on the bars, and got paint off, even the ones that had plastic protection on them. What kind of paint is safe to use in case they eat some of it?

  4. Oooh I love it! I didn’t see that when I picked up the alphabet cards at bibitty’s Etsy store. That will be the PERFECT addition to your already PERFECT nursery!!!

  5. That’s a super cute poster! Loved the pic in the previous post! How far along are you? I’m due in late November! :)

  6. I love the print!

  7. wonderful! and so perfect for your nursery!

  8. I love the print you’ve chosen- very sweet little-girlish. Have a great time at your party. Looking forward to more pictures of your nursery- and the party too.

  9. So very sweet, I loved the photo your friend Marla took of you eating your ice-cream!

So adorable! I bought french alphabet postcards for my daughters and used them around the top of our playroom as a border. They are so cute and make the room more fun. Only problem is now that the 4 year old is learning how to read, she gets a bit confused by the french words. “Look Mom, M for mansion!”. (It’s really “M” for house= maison. Oh well, all is good in the name of cuteness. I love, love, love what you are doing in the nursery. It is perfect and can’t wait to see the final pics!
I also wanted to applaud you for your last post about not working for free. I am a fellow designer/architect, and I often have a lot of friends ask for free advice. It takes hours and hours of time, all unpaid…. but now I do it because I’m home with the kiddos and need a creative outlet. But GOOD FOR YOU– thanks for sticking up for us! All the best :)

This is a divine poster! When my children were small (they are 23 and 25 now) we painted their rooms with blue sky and ethereal clouds on their ceilings so that when they grew up they would always remember them…I never forgot the pale lavender walls of my own childhood room…I call them heirloom memories! You are a design professional, no different than Sarah Richardson or Candice Olsen…you should have your own show…and your ethical loyalty to your clients and your profession are what we admire and respect! Thanks for the sneak peeks…they inspire…it’s like Godiva chocolate for the eyes!!

  12. Great little poster! Tres chic! She may be speaking French before you know what to do!

  13. cute! and i know you turned off the comments on your last post for a reason…but i have to say
GO YOU :) and perfectly worded

  14. I love the picture of you on the sofa eating your ice cream! And I thought your post was well-done. I hope that may take some of the free design questions away for good!

  15. Isn’t etsy wonderful? I love bibitty’s work, especially her flash cards. That poster will look so sweet in the nursery. Not to be nit-picky, but it’s “Parlez vous francais?” :) I can’t wait to see the next chapter of the Nursery Diaries!

  16. That’s such a beautiful print.
I just wanted to say that I looked at your business website, and you are truly an amazing designer!

  17. Etsy has become my favorite place to find artwork and jewelry. The only problem is being patient enough for it to come in the mail! The photo in your previous post is terrific.

  18. ENJOY the weekend. Relax. And for the love of Pete, eat some more ice cream.

  19. How cute are those prints…I bet the room will turn out precious!! Can’t wait to see more pics!
OK, I have to confess, I have been one to ask what the paint color was you used in one of your “work” posts!! Sorry!!! I understand that is in confidence and I admire your loyalty to your clients! I won’t ask again…promise!!!
Love your blog and your ideas and I, as well as many others who read your blog I’m sure, appreciate your time!!

  20. I just wanted you to know how much I enjoy reading your blog. I am also due with a baby girl – our first- on September 6. We are still putting the nursery together and having so much fun doing so. Good luck!

  21. I love the poster – it is darling. But I mainly love it because I play the “Harpe!”
I always look forward to reading your blog!

  22. I love the poster. It’s perfect for your little girls nursery. She is one lucky baby.I hope you have wonderful weekend surrounded by your friends and family.

  23. I love anything French – love the poster – both my previous nurseries were sprinkled w/ French things. So can I ask for some free decorating advice?? Ha ha, no, but what I do want to know is where you got those khaki pants you were sporting in nantucket. I assume they are maternity? I need a pair!
    Thanks!

  24. love the poster!

  25. These prints are adorable. The girl who makes these is actually local to me and I have seen them in person many times. they are printed on really nice paper and you will just love the details.
I loved that picture of you in the last post. You totally need to print that for the little lady’s scrapbook. I have a feeling she will just treasure it when she is older.
Hope your weekend is absolutely wonderful!

  26. Love this! Thanks for the link!

  27. Your blog makes me so happy! :)

  28. Oh that is so cute! After a holiday in France I’ve decided that not only do I need to seriously learn French, but so does the unborn bub. Brilliant!
    Lovely blog too x

  29. erika,
since i cant post a comment on the polite disclosure post…i thought i would just post it here. good for you in all that you wrote about free design advice and so on. hopefully i did not breach that when i asked about that bench. but more importantly i wanted to let you know i love the picture marla took of you. we so enjoyed shane and his work. please let them know that the whole wingfield family was very pleased. have a great weekend.

  30. Adorable! Love it! I have 2 year old twins (boy/girl) Jake & Delaney. Currently they share a room. As they get older and Jake gets more boyish the room they share is too girlie. So Jake’s getting his own new boys only room! I am having so much fun finding stuff for it. Today I visited a Habitat for Humanity Re-Store and found a fantastic chair that I will re-uphoslter! The chair is amazing, very retro and was only $60.00 You can see the pictures on http://www.HoityToityBaby.Blogspot.com if you’d like.

  31. Oui, je parle français! I am a French teacher!
    Love the prints, adorable!

  32. Love the poster, she is going to love it too! :)
Hey onto another subject, my friend invented a post natal hip belt you may or may not be interested in…I am telling everyone who is pregnant b/c there is only a small window to get your hips back after delivering…Blah blah sorry for rambling but check it out here if interested.

  33. i’m going to reply on a few posts right here my friend… getting lazy into my 7th month of pregnancy. i, too, have been stroller shopping. it’s so overwhelming, even with this being my third child i still don’t have it figured out. think i’m going with the graco car seat and graco snap n go as well. i figure i’ve got time until she can sit up to need the larger stroller.
    love the nursery!
AND… preach it sista! that’s all i have to say about that last post. and amen!

  34. so cute! And i love that puffy letter ‘A’. Did you make it, or buy it?

  35. that poster is so cute – i don’t speak French either, but it’s such a pretty language (and everything is prettier in french!).

  36. I **love** the fabrics you have chosen! And the paint :) And the chair :) And the fabric letters :) And the French chart :) You have gotten so much done and it is all lovely. We’re currently working on a light remodel (think Darby’s funky paneling from “before”), and I’m trying to get my girls’ rooms done before the long, gray Ohio winter rolls in – just for the visual “umph” it’ll give me to have something done and pretty in the house. I completely understand why you want to finish this nursery, despite all the logical reasons everyone has given for not needing to. You want to enoy IT while you are enjoying HER :) Makes complete sense to me.
I’ve loved reading your blog lately. I found Darby’s first and then found yours thru hers. May the Lord bless you and your husband and, of course, your sweet little girl :)
    Jacci

  37. And that adorable red piggy, too!!!

  38. Thank you for the props! You have two new adoring fans! We love your blog and look forward to seeing you in the bibitty shop!
