happy 4th!!

Happy Independence Day Weekend!  Sorry for my short disappearance, I have been very sick and am convinced there is nothing worse than being sick in the summertime!  Sloaney caught it too, which is a double-whammee.  Annnnd  maybe I should call it a triple-whammee, my sweet parents have been here visiting and DaddyBoy and I spent all day last Thursday at the Urgent Care place because he had pneumonia.  When it rains it pours, I hadn’t even caught up from my week in NYC and now I’ve lost another four days with this terrible throat/cough/sinus/fever crud that has taken over my body.

I’m almost always home with my parents at their farm on the 4th of July.  Mom always hangs her bunting flags on the porch rails.  So in a medicated stupor a couple of days ago I was able to pull myself together enough to get on Amazon and order a big bunting for my own front porch (above).

Since I get a little homesick for middle-America this time of year- some old photos from my parents farm, July is my favorite month there!

And last, but not least… a couple of HAPPY BIRTHDAYS! To my nephew (you can buy his crab tee here) and  to my favorite Cousin!!!  Love you both!!!

  1. Love your bunting! Happy fourth and hope you are all better for some summer fun this weekend. I actually bought bunting for the first time this year and still have not put it up- boo. You totally inspired me to get me rear in gear!

  2. Love the bunting! I am sorry you have not felt well. The emergency room is no fun. We are at the hospital right now with our baby in surgery, so I feel your pain! Have a great fourth! Hope you get to go boating with your sweet baby!

What kind of camera do you use?
Your photos, in content and clarity, are always wonderful!
    Happy 4th,

  4. Love your beautiful summer pictures. There is nothing like the celebrating of our nation’s independence. Hope yours is great and that you and the family are all feeling better for the festivities!

  5. Hope you all feel better soon. We live on the coast of NC and are enjoying a quiet 4th…leaving the beach to the tourist.
I’d love to see pictures of the exterior of your home. Is this the front? I love the color and the lighting. Please give us a total view from a distance. :)

Oh my gosh, I love this post. I grew up in Illinois, but have lived in Oregon for the last four years. I too get “a little homesick for middle-America this time of year.” That was so beautifully and perfectly put. But this year, I’m going home for it. My cousin gets married tomorrow, and my plane leaves in three-hours and counting.

I hope your holiday ends up being as delightful as I hope mine will be.

  7. Waht a fabulous assortment of photos. I love the family story that they reveal and the red barn….to die for.

PS – Great shot of the hummingbird!

  15. Love your patriotic bunting! Whenever you post pictures of your parents farm it makes me want to pack up and move there…it just looks so homey and relaxing. So sorry you, Sloaney and DaddyBoy have been so sick! :( I HATE getting a cold/fever in the summer…it’s bad any time of year, but especially so in the summer for some reason. I hope you’re still able to enjoy a fun 4th of July!
