we went to New York

This time around I took Allison along, I can’t be too sure, but I think she had fun.

There was a lot of work to be done, but we tried to have fun too.  Do you know Allison?  She is hilarious.  She is exactly what I need.  I am uptight, she is laid back.

She had never been to NYC and I had never been on a sailboat.  So I figured why not take a champagne sail to see the skyline? Do you know how beautiful sailboats are?  I have a new appreciation for anyone who knows how to sail.  I enjoyed watching the crew work while we sipped champagne.

I attempted to incorporate everything that I thought was crucial for someone’s first visit to New York into four short days.  Like Dean & Deluca.

We stayed at my friend Julie’s apartment, the view wasn’t too bad.

Do I go to Peels too much?  Probably.  But that antique oak, crisp white trim, charcoal gray, and those green banquettes, they kill me.  We also went to Freemans, which was beautiful and delicious.

And their giant ice cubes.  They have a “special machine” according to the bartender.

Pretty sure that when I take the easy route and drop something to be packed and shipped at the UPS store they holler “suckkkkker!” when I leave.  Packing peanuts, we hate them.

Well, we are out of order now, but here’s lady liberty at sunset.

Evidence that work was done.. still waiting for a headboard.

kate bedding

My favorite little friends at ABC.

Matteo baby bedding is so gorgeous.

We did not eat at ABC Kitchen, but I had to show Allison the simple place settings.  Each has a unique antique plate.  I love.

We did some rug shopping.  A lot of rug shopping.  And saw this pillow in the process.

And we went to Fishs Eddy.

  1. Gorgeous pictures! The nautical images are so creative-they make you feel like you’re there just looking at them! That pink and ivory fabric on the bedding is darling-love it! Looks like it was a very successful trip :)! Have a blessed day! xoxo

  2. Looks like a great trip. Thanks for all the tips, I am wanting to go in the fall. Such a beautiful city!

  3. Looks so great! I love the sailboat shots. I’ve always wanted to go to NY. Someday…. Thanks for posting!

  4. MamaofThree says:

fantastic photography!!! beautiful composition. BTW, I would have bought a pack of those striped straws in every color Why do those things attract me so??? Weird.

  5. I loved this post. Thanks for a glimpse into your trip, so fun!!

  6. Freaking LOVE Freemans & Peels! I sat at the bar at Freemans and drank my self through a little lunch last time I was in town, it’s the best. Love the decor. They’re sticklers on taking pics in there, don’t get busted. Did you see the faucet in the bathroom? You would die. Yes, I remember it. And have a picture somewhere. Love nice patina! Omg, I just set up an acct with Matteo bambino for my NURSERY! Eeekkk!! ;) I want to ‘do’ NYC with you one day!

  7. What a fun and productive trip! Love seeing the project sight. Hope you’re having a wonderful summer!

  8. what a fun trip! love that pillow you found! and Freeman’s is one of my very favorites!

  9. That sail boat ride looked amazing- I am gonna look into that for sure!

  10. I’ve never been to New York, never wanted to go. Until Now. Cool Finds, fo’ sho’

  11. Is that a Madeline Weinrib pillow? Love that line. Beautiful and inspiring as always.

  12. Those butter dishes are precious!

  13. SO glad you got to enjoy a sail. One of my favorite pasttimes. Not only that, but that boat is gorgeous. Your pics of it are great! You hit all my fave spots, but Fishs Eddy….that place makes me need designing rehab (I spend too much time and money everytime!!). I LOVE IT!!!!

  14. What a lovely time! Lucky Allison had a great hostess.

Do you know where the source of the gray couch in the photo above the ABC bunnies? It might be the one.

  15. Hi! Which company did you use for sailing ? Live in jersey city and have been waiting to sail the Hudson.

  16. I’d love to know what that beautiful blue and white, paisley kind of curtain fabric is in the photo with the white sofa. Can you let me know? Many thanks, Melx.

  17. Love all the detail fabric shots. You know what we like :) Looks like an amazing trip!

  18. wow!
gorgeous shots of the sail boat. My in-laws are big sailors and it is so super cool to me.
I have never been to New York. I will definitley have to check out some of your “places” if I ever get to go!

  19. I agree, Allison is funny. She seems like a great travel companion……love seeing the glimpses of your trip! I *must* have grasscloth somewhere in my house.

  20. you definitely hit the highlights! love that pink fabric.

  21. I love when you post about your trips! And I have to laugh because I have done the same thing at FedEx when I’ve needed to ship something and am short on time…I still find peanuts weeks down the road-they seem to multiply!

  22. It looks like y’all had so much fun!! I LONG to go to ABC Carpet. I’ve got several rugs I need to get and I feel a trip up there would be worth it!!

  23. I am going to NY in Sept so this makes me even more excited!! What company did you use for the champagne sail? I would love to do that!

  24. Great shots! I love sailboats, I live in Annapolis though and it is a requirement ;) The polka dot butter dish! I am going to New York for that alone!

  25. And did you wear a Kiel James Patrick bracelet during your sailing trip? :)

  26. That sailboat ride sounds amazing! I’m going to have to do that when I visit New York! So funny that you mentioned Freemans. My sister noticed it mentioned on another blog last week – along with the owners name. Growing up we were really good friends with Taavo’s family – lived on the same street in Michigan. He was 5 years younger than me, but his brother was one of my best friends. Haven’t seen Ivo in about 20 years now. Funny how the article we read about Taavo completely had wrong information about where his parents immigrated to, and where he spent a good part of his childhood. Oh well. I will need to visit his restaurant when I visit as well.

  27. Wanna trade lives?

  28. I love your style! Aren’t sailboats just the best? I’m going to be hosting an event out of that same location in NYC in October on the Pride of Baltimore II and I can’t wait. Thanks for the inspiration for more places to visit.

  29. I’ve never been to NYC either. I sure wish I could have you as my tour guide whenever I finally do make it there! These pictures look fantasit! What a super fun trip!

  30. Would you post which sailing company you used? My bookclub is traveling to NYC and several are “virgins” and this looks like a fantastic outing….thanks.

  31. SO fun! Makes me want to immediately book a trip to NYC! Love all the photos.

  32. oh my, wonderful!

  33. Posted on wrong post… I love Lippers too! But next time, I wanna go with to NYC! :) Looks like such fun and love those big ice cubes… wondering if they cut them!?

  34. Wendy Resin says:

    Hi Erica and Crew,
I just love your blog and all of the pictures of your work. You are truly talented. I was interested in the company that makes the rug sample in this post. It is a small sample on a larger rug below. You have used it in the past. I live in L.A.

  35. AnnieMouse says:

That first photo is just beautiful!

  36. kristen says:

erika – what site did you use to book the sail? i am taking my best friend there in a few weeks who has never been to nyc and i think this is a great idea!

  37. Love the photos! Where did Allison get her sunglasses? Love those too!

  38. Ok so i see there a delicious pile of rugs, on the top is a rainbow stripe one that I find particularly delicious. Do you recall, were they all Madeline Weinrib? I think I might need it.
p.s. mere days, like you could count them using not all of your fingers, until Girly McBaby is here.

  39. Michele says:

Can’t get past the Adobe promt, on your website. Downloaded latest flash but, still no go. Help!

  40. Fishs Eddy looks amazing! It reminds me of a shop in London called Liberty – have you ever been? Libertys looks just as much like a museum as it does a shop! It’s always really interesting going into the store – just to walk around and see the new items. You can see the website here: http://www.liberty.co.uk/

  41. Hey There … we just booked a flight to NYC in November. I remembered your sail boat cruise and had to come back to find it, thanks for the link, this will for sure be a part of our plans. I also have on the list Fishs Eddy :0). We were thinking of finding a place to stay on VRBO, we have never used anything like that …. any suggestions??

  42. I love all these pictures! What store did you buy those rugs in? I absolutely love them. Also, what store were the last few pictures taken in? I would love to go to that shop and look around.

  43. The post you wrote is really interesting.

  44. Howdy! Someone in my Facebook group shared this website with
