Urban Grace Interiors {the blog} bio picture

Welcome to my blog!

My name is Erika and this is my blog.  You might have come here from my old blog- if so please update your feed or bookmark the new site... I promise it'll be much better than the old blog.  If you are new around here welcome!  I'm so glad you are here.  A little background on me: I am a new mom to a precious little girl, a designer, a wife, and the mother of two rescued dogs (Penelope & Paisley).  I am passionate about design, and I also enjoy gardening, good pens, art, photography, antiques, traveling, and rescued animals.

If you are curious about my design business, Urban Grace Interiors, you can click that link above titled "Portfolio" that will take you to official website.  This blog is just my daily ramblings... some of which are design related, and some of which are not.  I hope you like what you find here... I aim to inspire.

Anne’s your blogger!

Anne’s your blogger!

Anne

E speaking (green): I have a new feature.  I’m such a loon.  I’m going to compare my guest bloggers to a piece of furniture.  I know that’s really random… but it’s my blog and I can be random.  SO, if Anne were a sofa, she’d be this one by Henredon.

Anne has been my best friend since I was 4 years old.  She and I used to be very competitive over who had the cleanest room.  {she wins}  The last time I was in Chicago my dad and I had a conversation about Anne- about how there is no one on earth like her.  She is so real.  So transparent… in that you always know what she is thinking. And she is SO herself.  Anne does not care what everyone else thinks – Anne is 100% Anne.  She is such a hilarious person, sometimes by what she says, but usually by what she does.  One time I drove to

Orlando

to see her while she was in college.  I had driven 7 hours to see her… thinking she’d greet me at the door, but NO, her boyfriend greeted me at the door then lead me to the bathroom where she was on her hands and knees with bleach cleaning the tile and toilet.  She would be a perfect poster child for both Clorox & The Container Store.  Her closet is organized by color.  She knows everything about every cleaning supply on the market.  She is a very safe person.  I’m struggling to put into words her personality… it is soooooo precious and unique.  What a blessing she is to everyone she knows!!!

You are: Anne Callard from

Geneva

(a western suburb of

Chicago

), IL

You do what: I work in leasing and sales for a commercial real estate company

What’s the last thing you bought online:

Fridge_pull_2

To be quite honest I’m scared of shopping online. I usually rely on my sister if I can only buy the item online (she does it all the time). I’m really afraid of someone stealing my credit card information. My last online purchase was hardware for my kitchen but I’m not sure if it really counts because I used Jeff’s credit card.  {Anne, I should have ordered these for you – I was unaware of your online shopping phobia.}  Pictured above (sorry if it’s blurry) is her fridge pulls… by Allied Brass.

Last song you downloaded on iTunes:

Rihanna

Once again I rely on Whitney {the sister}. She downloads all the songs on her computer and puts them on my iPod for me (Thanks Whit!!!). The last song I asked her to download was Rihanna, Shut Up and Drive. {thanks to "entertainment’s blog" for the photo}

Favorite Room in your house & why it is your favorite:

Dsc00330

Dsc00322

My kitchen, most likely because we just had it remodeled (it looks great thanks to all of Erika’s suggestions!!!). I am especially in love with my white marble countertops.  {i love it when someone is not afraid of marble… anne’s is extra white statuary – i’m tempted to lick the computer screen… yum, they are good- the first photo was at night and second photo was a "progress shot" i had requested- hence the missing backsplash tile and the hardware.  she and i talked Jeff (the bf) into the white sink… don’t you love it anne!? can’t wait to see it in person next weekend!}

What color are the walls in that room: The walls are currently Benjamin Moore, Fleecy Gold (I’m not sure that they even still make the color). Anyway, I want to change the color but I’m having a terrible time choosing a color….I wonder if my decorator has any ideas???

What’s the last thing you bought from a vending machine:

Dietdrpeppercan1

A Diet Dr. Pepper

Who inspires you:

Pink_ribbon_gs

My good friend

Yana

. In the last year she got married, found out she had breast cancer, lost her mother to breast cancer, lost her father to a heart attack, battled and survived breast cancer and she still finds a way to make it through. She is one of the strongest people I have ever met and anytime I am feeling down about something in my own life I just think of her and realize how fortunate I am to have my health and my family. Support breast cancer research.

Last book you read:

Thepact06med_2

I think the last book I read was The Pact by Jodi Picoult. She is one of my favorite authors. If you haven’t read any of her books I strongly recommend them.

What’s in the trunk of your car:  My work bag, my gym bag, a couple of pairs of pants that need to be hemmed, and last but not least antibacterial hand wipes.

Germx

Germex are my favorite because they don’t dry out your hands.  Their hand sanitizer is also great!

What perfume do you wear on a regular basis:

Caleche

Hermes – Caleche Eau Delicate {thank you Hermes for the beautiful image}

If you were to create theessential cleaning kitwhat would it consist of:

Oh boy….where do I begin?!! I love to clean although you wouldn’t think so if you saw my house right now. I love bleach. I know the smell drives most people crazy but not me. If I smell bleach I immediately think clean. Clorox Cleanup works great on everything. I am also a huge fan of Soft Scrub Deep Clean Foaming Cleanser. {it smells really good too}

Ss_2

This stuff is amazing. I told my mom about it and she said it even cleans brass. It is really powerful stuff and is especially great for shower tile. Do not use it on marble….I learned this the hard way. Another great thing to have on hand is Lysol Disinfecting Wipes.

Sanswipes_sdbr_duo

They are great for quick clean-up but are also very durable and can even handle tough jobs (don’t waste your time with the Clorox wipes, they don’t work nearly as well). I still think the best thing for mirrors and glass is good old Windex.

Tide_2

Now, I know Darby recently tried to sell everyone on Purex but when it comes to laundry Tide Original Scent Powder with Bleach Alternative still takes the cake. It cleans so well and leaves your clothes smelling really clean.

Omspray_2

If you are looking for a good stain remover try Clorox Oxi Magic.  It takes out everything. As you can probably tell I could go on forever about this particular topic and just in case there are readers out there that don’t share the same love for cleaning, I think I may close for now and work on a Part II for a later time.

What’s top on your Christmas list: I’m not sure what I want for Christmas. I haven’t really thought about it yet. I am having too much fun finding presents for Finley’s (my niece) first Christmas!

Where did you go the last time you flew on an airplane:

Florida

What’s your favorite indulgence: Without a doubt, shopping!!!

What 5 items would you consider as staples (essentials) in your wardrobe:

Since I work and am practical at heart:

1) black pants

2) sweater sets

3) turtlenecks (it gets really cold here in the winter)

4) good shoes

5) and most importantly anything Lilly!

November 8, 2007 - 11:26 am Cameron - Anne, thank you for sharing all your recommendations! Persoally, I don't like to clean (especially not as much as you do), but I love to have a clean house. My first pick will be the foaming deep-clean Soft Scrub.

November 8, 2007 - 12:14 pm Darby - Annie! I love this! It's so Anne. I knew what I'd find on your "guest blog" the Lilly stuff and the Soft Scrub cleaner! :) WIsh we could see y'all next weekend... soon, I hope! I'd love to bring the girls too.. they're growing so big! Make sure you kiss the Finster for me, ok!? Your kitchen is GORGEOUS! Makes me drool!

November 8, 2007 - 1:02 pm Whitney - Erika- you have such great taste most of the time, but I have to question this guest blogger...Where on earth did you such a wacko? Oh wait, that's right, she's my sister- TeeHee! Next time ask her how many back-up cleaning supplies she stores in her closet. Oh- and also ask her how many trips, on average, she makes to Target in a week.

November 8, 2007 - 1:24 pm Darby - I like Whit's post... I do believe if a pyschologist was to read Anne's post she would be diagnosed with OCD. And on my computer you can't tell the green from the black so I don't know when you're speaking or Anne... maybe you should do red and black! Just a suggestion!

November 8, 2007 - 3:35 pm Laura McQueen - Erika, I just love the blog. Your personality and style come right through the computer screen. It makes me miss my friend!

October 10, 2009 - 6:16 pm2nd: We went to Chicago - Fly Through Our Window - [...] last stop was by Anne & Jeff’s for a quick tour of their fabulous kitchen remodel. And I’m still mad at [...]
