dirt bikers, shoppers, and used Huaraches

  IMG_7731

My husband has been wanting to go to dirt bike "camp" for awhile now (their "room" is pictured above)… it's about 2 hours outside of Atlanta.  So we decided we'd make the trek.  This is where he and hisfriend stayed… of course I opted to stay in Atlanta and invited 2 friends (Cameron & Marla) along for the journey!

It was no coincidence that it was Scott's weekend… and we took advantage of every second we had… my dear friends were total troopers… you have to be to keep up with me!  See my friends below in the reflection…

Sometimes I get a little overwhelmed and A.D.D. all at the same time.  One such time I turned around to see if they were behind me and realized that they were carrying my stuff and I was empty-handed… "boo" me- I tried to clean up my act and not get so crazy. Friends, I appreciated your help this weekend!

{love my noisette bag, Blair!}

We had an absolute blast… although it probably felt like work, we covered some serious ground… and even got to eat at really fancy places like Ruby Tuesday's and Trader Joe's (in our hotel room).

Oh and we rented a mini-van… seafoam green, only had 6 miles on it when we picked it up!  It was a good call, as we packed it slam full 2 days in a row!  Would it be odd for a childless person (such as I) to get a mini-van… it was quite sporty and I loved all the room!  It even had the auto-close doors!

This here pug was a cute "shop keeper" – who couldn't walk past that and not chuckle?  I didn't take too many photos… I was busy- had lots of "items" on my list (not for me unfortunately)… but had I been looking for a shop counter – I would have bought this one:

Photos 058

I did buy this (not for me):

Photos 066c

We managed to squeeze in a little mall-shopping too…

Photos 053

Here's proof that I was with them… sitting in a chair at Restoration Hardware (for scale purposes it's helpful to sit in or stand by something in a photo).  I wish we had taken a group shot of all 3 us!

Photos 071

It was at Restoration Hardware where I ran into a fellow Auburn Interior Design classmate – my friend Laura!!  It was such a treat to see her!!!!

It was also in the mall where we discovered a new luxury in fashion… USED Huaraches!? When I first saw them I thought it was a "donation" box… ummm no, fashion has taken a turn that I cannot keep up with… those nasty dirty shoes were going for $38 a pair.  We got a good laugh.  When we inquired about them to the sales girl she claimed "vintage is back".

Photos 050

After all these adventures, Cameron flew back to Louisville, Kentucky and we hit the road… we stopped for Marla to do a photo shoot in Montgomery - at a beautiful place: Jasmine Hill.  Then another pit stop (literally met at a gas station in Troy, Alabama) for some books. Oh yes, I am always in need of books.  This time I scored 175 of them to be exact.  From a very kind and cute blogger named Laura (who I did not know) but somehow she thought I might be interested… and when she sent me these photos I almost fell over… they are all old and classics (from the local high school)… thanks to her cheerleaders (I assume she's their coach) for picking out all the best colors for me!!!  Gimme a B! Gimme an O! Gimme an O!  Gimme a K! What's that spell!?

Photos 015

That's all folks.  In a nutshell it was an amazing weekend with amazing company, and a much needed "break" (if it can even classify as such?)!  I came home with a trailer full of awesome finds, but somehow failed to take good pictures… I'm busy packing most of it back up because I am taking it with me as I wrap up an out of town project this week!

I'll be gone again for a few days… if I have time to post I will!

stalk on and cont’d weekend recap

Did some stalking this weekend in Apalachicola.  This little cottage had me requesting a double-drive-by.

Cottage 1

Quaint and old? Check.

Well manicured yard? Check.

Fireplace?  Check.

Cottage 2

Cafe curtains in the windows? Check.

Little shed or guest house out back?  Check.

Boat for the husband? Check.

Cottage 3

Pretty darn cute… my kind of place.

And just for kicks… a few more photos of the terrihuahuas and our weekend events…

They loved the beach (so did we).

Paisley at the beach

And the bay.

On the dock

But Paisley didn't love falling out of the kayak (twice).Timid wet dog

This (below) is what we call "terrierfied"… shaking in her boots, ready to get off the dock, half-hidden made her feel a little more secure…

Wet dog

How to transport 2 dogs to the beach (look closely)… terrier carrier:

This is where we stayed… for free.  Yes, for free and we are so very grateful.  The company that my husband works for is very generous and sees value in having a place like this… and of course we do too!

CSB house

Behind the house is a short walk to the beach, and that boardwalk in the bottom left side of the screen leads straight to the bay.

Backyard

Nice cold-tub (heater not on) and deck… and the girls loved the big open yard where they could run laps while we threw a frisbee.

Race dogs

This is what I bought at the city-wide-yard sale:

What I bought

Periodic Table of Vegetables print it was $5 and I thought it was fun, a gold 3-tiered serving-thing-a-ma-bob, a square gold bamboo framed watercolor print with chocolate brown print, and some books!

What I wanted to buy, but passed up (and still cannot quit thinking about) was this antique, fully-refinished, mahogany chest:

Mahogany chest

It was a wonderful weekend… if you haven't been to the Forgotten Coast of Florida you should check it out!  Be forewarned though, if you are the princess type who likes to shop at Barney's or boutiques, be pampered and waited-on, and if you don't like bugs or the outdoors, this might not be a good fit.

Brimfield

We arose at the crack.

The kids were puking and diarrheaing… but we were healthy, so off we went!

The grandmother arrived on time to hold down the fort for the day. Thanks Grandma!

Off we went… Brimfield Bound!

There was only a small snag.  As we rounded a corner just a few miles from the goodness… Annmarie came to stop… for no apparent reason… I looked at her and she said…

"I think we just ran out of gas."

Out of gas

So we start to walk – headed one direction, but didn't see any promise of a gas station, so we headed back the other direction… "should we hitch hike?" we tossed the idea around "are we safe together to get in the car with a stranger?" and then we saw HIM… we flagged down a dude in a truck with an orange light.  Side of his truck said "service station".  A quick call to AAA and $8 worth of gas later we were off!

Brimfield sign

The rest of these pictures are from the phone… but I hope they captured the goodness that was Brimfield:

Annmarie and I both bought a few of these (above) little apothecary jars… they are teeny-tiny… like good to keep your rings or medicine in… who knows, but they were cute and cheap.

Phone pix 020

Above was a table full of andirons… didn't buy any, but loved that gold buckle design.

Not that I needed any matchbooks… but…

This sink was probably the biggest regret… for Annmarie.  I told her she "should" but that little problem of "no place to put it right now" came into her mind.  I didn't press it… I was seeing images flash in my brain of the 6 faucets I own that I have no place for. (Plumbing Fixture Addicts Anonymous)… but it was gorgeous.  The profile on the sink, the brass fittings, the bowl… all in great condition.  $300. We left without it.

Heavenly. Seriously. Vintage trims.  I wanted these but took a clipping, and will buy it if I really can find a place for it…

I thought this was a zinc sink, til I touched it… soapstone.  I wish I had a kitchen project for this one. While we are on sinks… check this one out:

Here are the valves that accompanied that one:

Annmarie, we should have bought these plates.

Okay, so when I saw this guy (below) I thought to myself "who is that guy?" Do you know who he is? (probably not) He is who I bought my burled mahogany chest from at Round Top! How funny is that… it took us a minute to figure the connection out… but we got it.  Did I tell you all that Martha B. pulled through for me and had a knob that fit that old chest perfectly. Anyway, I had to take his picture and send it to Courtney instantly for a little game of "remember this guy"!?  I saw 3 or 4 great vendors who were also at Round Top… which was super fun.

Like the guys selling all this goodness:

Phone pix 018

This is for my sister… because she loves dolls (kidding).  Molds for doll heads.  Only kidding, these are a little on the scary side.

Phone pix 072

This was my favorite sight… these sculptures of dresses (a set of 3)… molded wire, painted… and very cool.

This is another favorite… this fabulous booth of real French antiques… linens specifically.  I was in awe over these striped… ummm… what-are-these…

Phone pix 198

You'll never guess what that is… so I'll tell you.  ESPADRILLE material! Straight from France.

You know, like the shoes:

Espadrille

So while Annmarie and I were brainstorming how to reinvent the espadrille fabric I heard someone say my name behind me.  Who would I know in the middle of no where Massachusetts?

I turned around a nice lady who I did not recognize said "I'm Staci, you had pictures of our farm on your blog.  My husband used to work with your dad."  I almost fell over… with elation!  Staci and her husband John are friends of my parents that go waaayyy back.  Staci lives only about 5 minutes from Annmarie and it was a delight to visit with her!  Remember their farm in Vermont?  Double Dog Farm… go check THIS out if you missed it the first go around.  This really is a small world… I love it.  Staci, I'm coming to Vermont… soon! Very soon! Here's a snapshot of us.. (it's small intentionally… it was hot and I had no make-up on)

Phone pix 102

So, here's my biggest regret.  These giant bins would have been perfect for fabric samples in the office… but they were big, and I feared arranging coordination on getting them home. $50. Should've. They are from a shoe factory in Maine.

Phone pix 069

Okay, this is the portion of the show where I somehow lost my mind.  Tell me this is normal… Annmarie talked me into buying this yellow antique bassinet.  I AM NOT PREGNANT and I DO NOT HAVE CHILDREN.  But somehow she threw in a few "I have one and paid 8 times that price for mine, and mine is not that cute", and a "you haaave to get it", and a "look how cute it is".  Okay, so this is the truth… it is cute. So I bought it.  Then I freaked out and sent a picture to my friend Marla who photographs (mostly) children and told her I bought it so she could use it to take pictures of kids in it.  HA. Then when we have kids I'll do a lead paint test on it and put it to good use.  For now: it's in Annmarie's basement… safe and sound.

I don't know why this woman (above) intriguied me… but she did.  She looks pilgrim-ish and felt suitable for that region of the US… I guess kind of like seeing cowboy boots and hats at Round Top.

We finished the day off with this:

Phone pix 040

And then hauled our crap to the car… and went home

Boston 379

Now the first question I got from my close friends "how did it compare to Round Top?"… it was equally fabulous as Round Top.  I spent more time in Round Top… so it wasn't really an apples to apples comparison, the prices were better at Brimfield for sure!  It was a blast… if you ever get a chance to hit either of these shows – do it!
