My dad called yesterday, “how’s my baby?”, he asked. I knew he was talking about Sloane. She’s great, I replied. Then he asked, “how’s your baby?”, I knew this time he was talking about the baby in my belly. She’s great, I replied. (I’ve not announced that I’m pregnant, but if you follow me on instagram, you already know. We’re having another little girl, due in May. So very excited.) Then dad said, “how’s your other baby?”… and I knew exactly who he was talking about, my furry rabbit friend, Smokey. I know I’ve talked about him before, but I’m not sure if I shared these photos from summer with our Smokesters. In case y’all forgot… he’s a tame rabbit who was a neighbor’s pet, but they let him loose and now he roams the neighborhood. He likes to come by my house for bunny treats.

And when he pulls this little number (below) it takes everything within me not to scoop him up and kiss his furry little face. He won’t let me hold him, but he does let me scratch his double chin.

It cracks me up that Sloane is going to grow up thinking that a tame rabbit visitor is normal. I am contemplating writing a children’s book about Smokey, we’ll see. He’s pretty magical.

Hello faithful blog readers. I was on a roll blogging with the posts about the Coastal Living house and then I got distracted. Traveling and working a whole lot lately, so I’ve been trying to spend every second of precious free time with my little family. A few weeks ago Marla took our pictures, it had been a year since our last session with her so I was excited about capturing memories of Sloane at this precious age (she’s three now, how time flies). Marla lives down the street, which is also down the bayou, so we hopped on the boat, picked her up on her dock and headed to what we like to call “The Hill”…. a deep cut created by the Intracoastal Waterway that is not only breathtaking, but also lots of fun for Sloane who likes to climb, dig and get dirty. I thought I’d share a handful of my favorites from our session…

Hate to presume that anyone will ask, but someone usually does… Sloane’s little sweater came from Children’s Place, I ran in for socks and came out with that sweater, oops. Her aqua jeans are Old Navy. My top is from my friends at Willow + Woods, they have an online store now (Wear Willow), which is fantastic. The top is Lauren Moffatt, not sure if it’s still available on their website, but perhaps you could call and order it 850-231-0248.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving, we have much to be thankful for this year.

The second level of the Ultimate Beach House has two large areas for more entertaining… a Game Room and a Theater. The Game Room (seen below) was deep enough for a large seating area and a ping pong table. We tucked Lee Industries drum stools beneath the ping pong table so the table could be used for other games, or even as a secondary dining area for kids.

The ping pong table was a custom design I whipped up in a total state of madness at the last minute, and I think it turned out alright, all things considered. The seating area at the end of the Game Room has two large Lee Industries slipcovered sofas, a leather ottoman, and a wall of watercolor prints that surround the television. The paintings on the left are by Michelle Armas, who I had the pleasure of meeting in person when Leigh Ann and I were in Atlanta a few months ago.

The photograph above the sofa came from local artist Tommy Crow, the lamps are all from Circa Lighting. The watercolors behind the television are from Michelle Morin of United Thread, I should have taken a close-up photograph, they are amazing!

It’s hard to mix art in a large open space, but after finalizing the exact location of the ping pong table I had this idea to hang wooden handled sandpaper paddles on the wall. It was a graphic detail that didn’t introduce any more color, but just made sense and added interest. I drilled the holes in the paddles myself, thanks to Billy the trim carpenter for letting me borrow his drill, and lined them up easily thanks to the walls being paneled horizontally. I painted the ping pong table in Pratt & Lambert’s Seed Pearl & April Mist, and the bases are Golden Green.

As you leave the Game Room and head toward the Theater there’s a wet bar that’s lit with the most beautiful natural light that comes from a little dormer window. We tucked a cushion in the alcove and decided it would make a great reading nook.

Double-lined draperies in Home Couture’s Lorraine seperate the Wet Bar from the Theater. The Theater being windowless made it tricky to photograph, but I did the best I could…

The tall ceilings really needed pendants, so we dropped three down the center of the room and added sconces at each level of seating. The walls and ceiling are all clad in Stroheim grasscloth. Moss green carpet kept the room monochromatic so that the Lee Industries double chaises would shine.

The concrete side tables were a last minute addition from CB2 and the chunky tassel throws at the foot of the chaises came from West Elm. Sometimes when you are in a time crunch sites like CB2 and West Elm come in very handy, stock is usually good and they can ship fast.

The house had two bunk rooms, one on each level. The upstairs Bunk Room was initially a walk-in-closet, but it was so large we felt it was better suited for a bunk room. Due to the ceiling slope we opted for a daybed design and I think it worked out well. We even had enough room to spare a walk-in-closet at the back of the room.

The design starting point for the room was the “Serendipity” Sister Parish wallpaper, we then painted the paneling and bed platforms to match the green in the paper, in Pratt & Lambert “Barberry”.

The linens with the custom scallop trim and the coverlets are both by Traditions. The bolsters are trimmed in Schumacher’s Colette Coupe trim. The gold striped accent pillows are in Windsor Smith’s “Sparkle” stripe for Kravet. The Sunbrella throws added the perfect punch of coral for the foot of each bed.

The first floor bunk room is off the back hall. We decided to paint the entire room in a dark charcoal gray (Pratt & Lambert’s “Dependable”) to add contrast against the otherwise mostly white common areas. The straw baskets hold Sunbrella throws and Tilly Towels (unfortunately not pictured, added those after I took these pictures).

Each bunk has it’s own curtain, black-out lined, so parents have a better chance of kids sleeping in.

The accent bolsters on the beds are in Studio Bon’s “Fuzz”. Linens are from Traditions.

Each bunk also has an ipad docking station… which should keep children (or adults) entertained for hours. All of the audio video work in the house was done by our friends at Innovative Sight & Sound.

Foyer

The oval shaped entry has a tall cove ceiling, all covered in Venetian Plaster. This fixture by Circa Lighting just felt right for the way the foyer is positioned in the house, the floor to ceiling window on the backside of the foyer gives guests a view into the courtyard and pool area. We chose a skirted hexagon shaped table to soften the space. The fabric on the skirt is one of my favorites, a Nomi linen with a gold oblong dot, with two linen accent bands of Samuel & Sons flat tape trim at the bottom, which matched the front door color. This is a great view of the Peacock Paver floors, which are in their Champagne color.

Kitchen Living Dining

As you come off the foyer to the right you step into the common area that is the kitchen, living, and dining area.

The garden stools are the Duquette by Madegoods. All upholstery again, by Lee Industries. Lighting by Circa. The painting over the fireplace is by Courtney Garrett.

The dining room table was made specifically for the space by Old Wood Company. The wall behind the settee is upholstered in Sunbrella fabric and the plates are an NYC find.

Oops, should have straightened that poor pillow on the far right. Gotta keep it real. The study walls are clad in pecky cypress in a very custom stain. Poor Allison stood in line at the paint store for hours mixing and mixing until it was just right. I think she nailed it. The painting above the sectional (by Lee Industries) is by Clare Elsaesser, commissioned her to do one of her small paintings very large for this back wall. I love this room, but Coastal Living did not run it in the story. It is in the online gallery, but I was bummed it didn’t make the cut. I guess it’s a bit too dark for their normal readership’s liking. I think it’s a cozy little retreat and was definitely one of my favorite rooms in the house. After I took this picture we went back and added reading sconces over each end of the sectional. The ottoman is one that Allison and I found on our trip to Miami.

The pillows are combination of Jane Shelton and Peter Fasano, two of my most favorite fabric lines.

If you are interested in any furnishings, fabrics, rugs, art (etc) you see in this post, or the posts to come in the next few days feel free to contact us via our website or you can email Allison at allison(at)urbangrace(dot)com .

I’m not sure if these are “pinnable” from this page, but if anyone wants to pin them on Pinterest I’ll be adding them to a “Coastal Living Ultimate Beach House” board as I update these posts.

As most of our loyal readers already know back in late June we finished designing the Coastal Living Ultimate Beach House. The project is featured in the October issue of Coastal Living, which may still be on newsstands. Of course, publications never really do a project justice, and likely neither will these photographs that I’m going to post… but hopefully some of you were able to visit the house as it was open for tours all summer. The new homeowners have moved in now and it is so nice that a real family is enjoying the space… and what a lucky family they are!

Over the course of the next few days I’m going to post photos of the house. A little more background info on the project: the house is 5,100 heated and cooled square feet, about 7,000 square feet total under roof. It is located in our neck of the woods, in the quaint coastal beach town of Rosemary Beach, Florida. The architecture was designed by Lew Oliver of Whole Town Solutions, the house was built by Benecki Homes, landscape architecture was designed by Alec Michaelides of Land Plus, all three of which are located in Atlanta.

Master Bedroom

The Master Bedroom walls are covered in Ralph Lauren’s Erin Line Herringbone grasscloth in color Natural (available through Kravet). Ralph Lauren was extremely generous in that they donated the wallcovering for this space. It softened the room and was the perfect balance between coastal and elegant. The beautiful Mahogany bed was designed and built by Andrew Reid of Reid Classics. I am sure he hated to see that I had two chairs placed at the foot of bed, as the mahogany piece he used for the footboard was exquisite. The bed is his D Post Bed with the 200 Headboard. All of the lamps throughout are from Circa Lighting. The bedside tables are the Litchfield Chests by Somerset Bay. Upholstery throughout was provided by Lee Industries, they were gracious enough to let me send a Travers trim that I thought would accent the back cushions of those chairs. . The painting above the bed was one that Allison and I found when we went to Miami and couldn’t pass it up, it managed to tie the whole room together with shades of gray, gold, green and blue. The linens on the bed are by Traditions and Mela & Roam, in my opinion two of the finest linen lines out there. The floors throughout the first floor are Peacock Pavers which we layered seagrass rugs over to soften. All of the seagrass rugs were ordered from our friends at Fibreworks.

This dresser is a piece that I had a local cabinet shop build, the color is a little off in this photograph, but the body of the chest is a vanilla color (same as the bedside chests) with details in an antique gold. The mirror above the chest is the Agnes by Madegoods. The deer bowl is vintage. All lighting by Circa.

The developer worked closely with the cabinet shop to design the cabinets throughout. They were a little more modern/trendy than our usual aesthetic, which ended up being a fun challenge, marrying a softer more traditional look we’re comfortable working in with clean-line contemporary cabinetry. All cabinetry was provided by Karpaty Cabinets.

Guest Bedroom 2

This bedroom’s walls were painted Pratt & Lambert “Moss Lake”. The bed is by Lee Industries, linens by Traditions. The bed is upholstered in Enchanted Baltic, which coordinated perfectly with Kelly Wearstler for Groundworks trim which we trimmed the accent pillows in.

Sunbrella was a fabric sponsor so we used them as often as possible, these draperies above are in a Sunbrella fabric with a Barbara Barry for Kravet trim. All the draperies throughout were fabricated and installed by Drape 98. The bathroom mirror is from Anthropologie and was the perfect solution for a window-behind-the-sink scenario. All of the beautiful bathroom apothecary items were donated by Patchouli’s in Rosemary Beach… a favorite amongst all of us at Urban Grace. The house smelled so wonderful.

Bedroom 3

By the time I made my way to the back of the house with my camera I forgot to photograph this bedroom’s adjacent bathroom. I also only took one photograph of this room. I was tired. The natural woven shades throughout were sponsored by B&W Window Fashions by Horizon Shades. Lamps by Circa, bed by Lee Industries, linens by Mela & Roam and Traditions. The wall color here is Pratt & Lambert’s “Ever Classic”. Drapery fabric is Thibaut.

The seagrass rug in this room was from Fibreworks new collection “Bakari” and is such a gorgeous pattern.

Bedroom 4

We chose to paint Bedroom 4 walls and bed the same color… Pratt & Lambert’s “Manchester”. We knew they would read differently in different finishes and it was the perfect understated combination we were hoping for. The bed in this room (like the Master) is also by Reid Classics. Andrew and I worked together on this custom design, and as a result he decided to name it the “Powell Bed”, I was honored. I’m sure it pained him greatly to paint a Mahogany bed, but it sure turned out gorgeous. The linens are Mela & Roam with a custom coverlet and shams in an ivory cane pattern matelesse by Fabricut (Nauru in Magnolia), with accent pillows in Peter Dunham’s Udaipar. Lamps and chandelier from Circa Lighting. The antique tree prints are some that Leigh Ann and I found at Scott’s Antique Market in Atlanta a few months back. Bedskirt is Lulu DK’s Tulah in Navy. The bedside tables are skirted in Fabricut’s Pelfrey in Navy. The bolster on the bed is Fabricut’s Renaissance in Patina with trim by Samuel & Sons.
