Hello. Sorry for being such a stranger. Just been working and mothering.

A few months back Coastal Living called and asked if I’d do a little Q&A for their February issue, which is on newsstands now.

Marla took the picture and thankfully I don’t look as cold as I actually was. Many thanks to the folks at Coastal Living for including me.

A couple of weekends back Darby and her family came for the weekend. A mutual friend offered us a house in Rosemary Beach for the weekend, which is something you don’t turn down. It was a wonderful little staycation. Of course, Sloane didn’t quite know how to handle herself in bunk beds with three older cousins and sleep the first night wasn’t exactly peaceful, but we managed and had a blast.

People often email and ask where they should stay when they visit my little beach community, but it’s not something I can answer easily because it’s rare (aside from McBeach) that I take a staycation. We loved our weekend here (here’s a link to the house). The house was just one house off the gulf and right on the green, it really was perfect.

Last week I bought this…

a Pop Phone and I love it.

News from the home front, Sloane is potty trained. We went pantless for a couple of days… no accidents and done. Easy, peasy. My girl is getting so big it sorta hurts my heart. I want to freeze time. Last Friday evening she accidentally dropped a box of crayons, when they crashed to the floor she exclaimed, “Oh my little goodness!”

I just discovered The Glow. It’s been around for a while, but I don’t get out much. It’s like The Selby of working (designer, artist, creative-type) moms and their children. I got sucked in. It doesn’t hurt that they are all gorgeous, the homes are beautiful, and the photography is amazing.

Lauren Moffatt (above) made her daughter’s dress from a women’s shirt from H&M. I love it. Maybe I need a sewing machine.

it was a very merry Christmas at the Funny Farm

Apologies for posting too many photos and believe it or not there are a lot more here if you care. We had a wonderful time at my parents farm in Southern Illinois over Christmas. My brain isn’t working well today and I can’t seem to put words together… so I will just leave you with some photos and the promise that I will try to be back soon! Happy New Year, friends!

(If you have no idea what I’m talking about… Pinterest is a virtual bulletin board. An awesome site for people to organize ideas and images they find online. If you aren’t a member you need to find a friend who is and they will send you an invitation. Beware, it’s addictive.)

‘Tis the season to be merry

As most of you know by now, we love Tastes Orangey. Her artwork blends nature with human emotions in a very beautiful and dramatic way. And because it’s the season of giving, Clare was so gracious to offer 5 incredibly lucky winners their choice of one 13 x 19 print. Any of her wonderful prints can be made into the larger size. Here is a sampling if some of her new pieces that all of us around here love.

working 9 to 5

Most of my jobsite photos look like this:

Exciting, I know. But it’s the minute details (and photos like these) that eventually evolve into pretties.

Leigh Ann and I stopped by this morning to check on a powder bath that was papered over the weekend. We weren’t disappointed.

Villa Romo’s Rowan Pearl paper in “Lipstick” and trim in Benjamin Moore “Grant Beige” working well together. I was tempted to paint the trim pink, but the berries pop this way and I think that’s how it was meant to be.

The grassclothed ceiling in the Dining Room worked out pretty well too. In love with Urban Electric’s Chisholm Hall pendants.

And before I get back to work, there’s a tiny ballerina in my house now…

One Christmas “CR” was the recipient of… “I kid you not….2 books on plastic surgery and a check to get liposuction, from my mother-in-law. I like things flavored with eggnog, but not the actual eggnog. I dare someone to top this one!!”

It feels like Christmas is tomorrow. I don’t know where the time goes. It’s holiday card time and I’m aiming to get one out this year. If I can’t pull it off it’ll be Valentines from the Powells again.

If you can’t seem to get your act together either… maybe this will help.
